Curating “Our Shared Skies”

At IA&A at Hillyer in Washington DC

Re-Inhabiting Conservation: Our Shared Skies - part of our “Re” series - is now on view at IA&A at Hillyer in Washington, DC, through November 29, 2026.

With a focus on creatures of flight, each artwork in this exhibition explores a different aspect of the complexity of wildlife conservation.

On November 21, 2026 from 3-6 PM ET, Creature Conserve Curatorial Fellow 2026, Marissa Mireles Hinds @babesindevelopment will be curating a free event, “The Conscious Museum: A Drop-In Supper Club.”

This three-course, farm-to-table supper club will invite the artists from the exhibition and other guests from conservation, physics, community farms and sustainability to come into dialogue with our invited supper club guests to eat together and ideate together, creating our own museum of conscious thought.

Community Highlights

Curatorial Fellow Spotlight

Marissa Mireles Hinds @babesindevelopment is a Black Caribbean and Mexican American artist-curator, writer and filmmaker based in the UK. She is curating “The Conscious Museum: A Drop-In Supper Club,” as part of “Re-Inhabiting Conservation: Our Shared Skies.”

In her words, “The supper club is a free, communal exploration of the ecology of food, the future of conservation, and the consciousness of our environment and the winged creatures who allow for its existence.”

Performing Arts Fellows Spotlight

This spring, we launched a new Performing Arts Fellowship Program, led by Maura Nguyễn Donohue @mauranguyendonohue @huntercollegedance.

This program aims to cultivate new experimental performance works that emerge from meaningful collaboration between performing artists, scholars, and scientists working in wildlife conservation and related ecological or environmental fields. Our Performing Arts Fellows are Andy Russ @passiveaggressivenoveltyco, lim mui @moonmatriarchy, Sheree V Campbell @DontForgetTheV, Maya Tsou @m4y4t5ov.

Mentee Spotlight

Manya Singh @kaaagazkphool & Aditi Patil @aditi_patil, worked together as 2025-26 Mentees.

In their words, “In Bloom is a participatory art–science pilot co-created with schoolchildren and local knowledge holders in Reshamiya village (Chotila, Gujarat), located in the semi-arid savannah grasslands of the Panchal region.”

Grace Marian @gracebirdlover shared this “Wildlife Through the Lens” photograph.

In her words “Standing before this scene, I found myself unable to decide which was more beautiful: the woodpecker or the flowers it rested among. That question became the heart of this piece.”

WORKSHOPS - Anytime

Each of our six asynchronous Fundamentals Workshops includes a series of brief video recordings paired with a workshop guide. Presented by Creature Conserve Program Leaders and invited experts, they are designed for you to complete at your own pace. Cost: $10 per workshop.
