Guardians of the Lamar Valley

Ezra’s interdisciplinary project combined field research, conservation biology, and scientific illustration to document and raise awareness about the ecological importance and growing threats facing Limber Pine (Pinus flexilis) ecosystems in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park. In collaboration with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the University of Colorado Denver—and with support from the Henry Luce Foundation and Creature Conserve—this project leverages field-based data collection on wildlife-pine interactions, with a focus on mega-fauna impacts on tree health, to illustrate the story of the Limber Pine and the diverse organisms that rely upon this species.

EZRA EDWARDS is a scientific illustrator, based out of Denver, Colorado, with a strong background in biological and anatomical illustration. Through visual storytelling, their goal is to make science more visible and approachable—bridging the gap between scientific research and public interpretation, and ultimately illuminating our shared responsibility in sustaining the ecosystems that support life on Earth.
