2023 mentorSHIP fellow

As a Mentorship Fellow (2023-24 and 2024-25), Lauren is creating new opportunities for the cross-disciplinary writing community at Creature Conserve.
“I am working to create new opportunities for writers interested in cultivating creative writing that features topics and themes related to wildlife conservation and the science that informs it. Building a Science-Based Creative Writing Community in Wildlife Conservation is designed to foster Creature Conserve’s growing group of writers, from novelists to poets to playwrights. As a contributor to this cross-disciplinary writing community, I am investigating the efficacy of various metaphors in wildlife conservation science communication.”
LAUREN RENEE FRAUSTO is an enthusiastic inter-disciplinarian in her creative and academic pursuits, with a focus on the combination of science and poetry in both realms. Her poetry, written for the page and the microphone, is influenced by her dedication to her work in research, education, writing practices, and intersectional feminism. She is excited to create and collaborate at such intersections as STEM and the humanities, science and literature, and technology and art. Additionally, she values incorporating science fiction and the speculative into art and scholarship. Her recent science writing can be found in New Plains Review, Yemassee, and Consilience.
