Susan collaborated with Lisa Schnell on Creature Conserve’s book-based interactive installation for our Re-Conservation exhibition series. Susan regularly teaches writing workshops, including at least one per year for Creature Conserve. See our workshop schedule for the next opportunity to learn from her and write for the animals.

SUSAN TACENT is a writer, scholar, and educator from Brooklyn, New York. She is co-editor, along with Christopher Kondrich and Lucy Spelman of Creature Needs: Writers Respond to the Science of Animal Conservation (University of Minnesota Press) to be published in January 2025. Her writing has appeared in academic and literary journals fiction such as Blackbird, DIAGRAM, Michigan Quarterly Review, and Tin House Online and elsewhere. Her criticism and interviews have been published in The Common, Dostoevsky Studies, and The Keats-Shelly Journal. She's taught at Brown University, Oberlin College, and Roger Williams University, and has designed and implemented literary workshops at libraries, arts organizations, and assisted living residences. She is writer-in-residence for Creature Conserve. She and her family live in Rhode Island.
