LISA KAHN SCHNELL:

  • 2024 LEADERSHIP PATHWAY mentor fellow

  • 2023 and 2022 Exhibiting Artist

  • 2023 mentor

  • 2020 mentee

As a Mentorship Fellow, Lisa is leading a series of focus groups to better understand how artists, writers, and other makers can influence the science of animal conservation.

Lisa collaborated with Susan Tacent on Creature Conserve’s book-based interactive installation for our Re-Conservation exhibition series. The book was on exhibit in 2022 as part of Re-Examining Conservation: Questions from the Intersections of the Arts and Sciences at Brown University and in 2023 as part of Re-Imagining Conservation: From The Ground Up at Swale House on Governors island, NY.

As a mentee in Creature Conserve’s first mentorship program, Lisa explored the life cycle of monarch butterflies.

“Creature Conserve’s diverse community shares a love for wild animals and the natural world. We find individual successes, but how can we embrace our collective strengths? What might nurture our ties to the Creature Conserve community, and to each other? As a Mentor Fellow in Community Research, I plan to conduct a series of focus groups to explore these questions and to engage our Mentors, Scholarship Recipients, and Exhibitors in additional generative conversations around how artists and makers can influence science, scientists, and the scientific process..”

LISA KAHN SCHNELL is an interdisciplinary artist, author, and naturalist exploring themes of ecological and personal restoration, and other ways that humans can collaborate with the natural world to the benefit of both.
