Sofiya is a former scholarship recipient (2019) for her work on the Asian songbird trade in Indonesia. She subsequently curated the Asian Songbird and Sharks and Rays wildlife resource pages on our website, and then (2020) piloted and led our nascent “Network Growth” program.

She is a mentor, guest critic, and workshop instructor, most recently for Underwater Talks and Masterclass: Pangolin Trade.

Sofiya’s work has been exhibited Re-Imagining Conservation: From Many Viewpoints (2023) at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson WY.

“Together artists and scientists have potential to find the new ways for tackling social and environmental issues. Incorporating creativity into scientific research and informing science by art create new opportunities for art-science collaborations beyond science communication and illustration."

SOFIYA SHUKHOVA is wildlife artist and conservationist. In her art, she explores lesser-known conservation topics. She holds an MSc in Conservation and International Wildlife Trade and has previously worked with various conservation groups in Southeast Asia. Both education and work experience in conservation make her art more informed and impactful.
